Day 9 - Arriving in Kamakura

The train ride into Kamakura is beautiful, rain beating hard as I stare out the window. It’s beautiful, but I dread going out in this typhoon to find my hostel. Hoping the rain abates soon, I pop in my headphones and listen to some music. I finally arrive at Kamakura station, the rainfall coming down harder than ever. I throw a rain cover over my back and put on my rain poncho. I start walking, realizing that I am a 20 minute walk from the hostel. I enter the inside of several stores for brief respite from the rain, hopping between points. I eventually find the Kamejikan Guesthouse. My bottom half is soaked, despite my poncho.

I check in and dry off. Needless to say, I stay inside all day, until the storm finally stops. I spend this time writing, reading, and recharging, exhausted from constant activity. I walk 5 minutes to the beach, take a few photos along the walk, and walk the beachfront. The scenery is gorgeous in Kamakura. The beach reminds me of a California bum beach, or perhaps even a Hawaiian beach. Drink and food places line the beachfront, and there are even Hawaiian themed burger places and California Pizza Kitchens. The small beach town lifestyle helps me forget about the harassment and crowds in Tokyo.

The day is gone very quickly, and unfortunately, I’m unable to do much. I go back to the hostel and sleep early.
