An Irish Road Trip: The Itinerary
The Itinerary
Here are our current travel plans, subject to change based on whatever whims are thrown our way during a great road trip. One of the unique challenges we will have while traveling is that we do not have lodging for a majority of this trip. We will be car camping for the majority of the trip, which means we don’t know where exactly we’ll be sleeping at the end of each day.
We’ve sketched out our general agenda, but the nature of this trip means that plans could change on a whim and we may end up deviating from the itinerary below (with the exception of pre-booked stays and tickets for venues.
1st Leg - Dublin (August 23rd-27th)
August 23rd - Board plane at Denver International Airport, travel day to Dublin International Airport
August 24th - Land in Dublin, do a walking tour of Dublin to get our bearings, and check into the Abbey Court Hostel
24th through 26th - Visit the Dublin tourist destinations - Trinity College Library, Guiness Factory, Chester Beatty Library, Temple Bar District, and more.
August 27th - Check out of our hostel and pick up our Wicked Camper Van.
2nd Leg - The Road Trip Begins, Wild Atlantic Way (August 27th-September 4th)
After picking up our Wicked Camper Van, start the drive south, making our way toward Wicklow National Park.
Head southwest, taking our time to visit big destinations: the castle of Kilkenny, take a charter boat out to the protected islands of Skellig Michael, view the sunset at the Cliffs of Moher, dance and since in the pubs of Galway, and continue until we end up at Derry.
On this trip, we will be car camping in the van, with a few random campsites or AirBnBs to give us a shower.
3rd Leg - Northern Ireland and traveling back home (September 4th-September 8th):
~September 4th-5th, head into Northern Ireland to view the Causeway Coast, enjoy Belfast.
Sept. 5th-6th, drive back toward Dublin, ensuring we visit the historic Brú na Bóinne
September 7th, return the van and make our way to Malahide, just north of Dublin, to stay at our final lodging, the Grand Hotel.
September 8th - wake up early to get to the airport and take off back home at 10 am.
