A Short Morning Ritual

This morning, I woke before sunrise. Unable to stay in bed any longer, I got up and put on my yukata. Leaving my phone, I went downstairs. My cat, fully awake and waiting for food, rubs against my legs. I put today's portion of food into her dish and refill her water bowl. I then let her out into the garage, where she can explore in the morning.

After tending to the cat, I pull my cold brew coffee out of the fridge. I pour it over ice, mix it with a splash of oat milk. I then go to the backyard and sit on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the yard. Sitting, the sun is still not up. The morning air is cool, but my yukata keeps me just warm enough for it to be comfortable. All around the neighborhood, I can hear birds chirping away, slowly waking up. As the sun starts begins rising, some of them visit the bird feeder in my yard, already looking forward for their breakfast.

I sit and drink my coffee, listening to the birds, watching the clouds, waiting for the day to take form. Is it possible to always live this peaceful life? As I continue to sip at my coffee, I think it is not possible to live this peaceful life forever. I am able to live it for now, though. This morning is enough.
